Cell Cycle Metabolism
The cell cycle metabolism: Schematic overview of the cell cycle phases and the changes in glycolysis and glutaminolysis activities (Recommended Reading; Blue stroke: glycolysis activity; Green stroke: glutaminolysis activity; Red stroke: R, restriction point; Black stroke: G1, S and G2/M cell cycle phases).
Research questions:
- What is the purpose of Aerobic Glycolysis during the transition G1 to S?
- Why cells induce a "counter-intuitive" mechanism, wasting vast amounts of carbon structures (as excreted lactate) during a process in which "cell material duplication" is paramount?
- Could interference of this process "halt" pathologies in which uncontrolled proliferation is a key feature?
